Seychellois Students Perform Well In Hospitality Competition
In the world of hospitality management, Ireland's IHI Business Management Game is one of the more prestigious competitive events for students in the hospitality sector. In this year's recently concluded games a team of five students from Shannon College of Hotel Management won the competition. In the Seychelles, the tourism industry is especially proud because two of the winning students are from that nation. Four-year student Michele Andre began her studies at Shannon back in 2008 and plans to complete her final year through a placement beginning this coming July. Fellow student Rose-May Payette has already completed her advanced diploma program and is currently working on her bachelor degree at Shannon. Both students plan to return to Seychelles for full-time work once their education is complete. Their success illustrates what the Seychelles Tourism Board wants to accomplish by sending students overseas to study hospitality. According to Seychelles Tourism Board CEO Elsia Grandcourt, her country needs to focus heavily on training local students for the hospitality industry if they are to move tourism in that country to the next level. Students who graduate from the Tourism Academy are able to go off to other schools thanks to partnerships between those schools and the Seychelles Tourism Board. The hope is that as more students complete the programs the nation's tourism industry will have to rely less on foreign workers. The news of the two student's accomplishments comes at a time when Seychelles is basking in the world spotlight. Both the public and private sector have been working at fever pitch since the start of last year to raise the profile of Seychelles on international tourism stage. Their hard work is paying off as their reputation continues to grow around the globe. If things continue unabated Seychelles could eventually catch up to Mauritius and fight for the number one spot in the Indian Ocean region. At the very least, Seychelles' efforts will raise the profile of the entire Vanilla Islands partnership. To most Europeans, the Seychelles beach wedding is what first comes to mind when they hear someone speaking of the islands. Yet there's more to it than that. Seychelles offers a beautiful destination for families and groups as well. At the heart of what makes her so attractive is her hundreds of islands, each offering something unique to travellers. In fact, island hopping is among the most loved activities for those visiting Seychelles. It presents an opportunity to visit with a variety of different people, experience many different cuisines, and see some of the most breathtaking views in all the Indian Ocean. For those who do visit for a beach wedding or a romantic honeymoon, Seychelles certainly offers the perfect atmosphere. Many of her smaller islands are home to private resorts which allow the honeymoon couple to escape into their own romantic sanctuary. And of course, the gorgeous sunsets and white sand beaches provide the perfect place for those long, romantic, hand-in-hand walks.
