Mauritius Welcomes Highest Number Of Brits In Five Years
British tourists have been one of the strongest supporters of the Indian Ocean nation of Mauritius for decades. However, when the financial crisis hit in 2007/2008, international travel fell off drastically. Fortunately, it looks as if things are changing. Even as worldwide travel has increased, the island welcomed more British travellers this past August (2014) than it has in five years. Breaking Travel News reports that more than 11,800 Britons travelled to Mauritius during the month of August, representing an increase of 20.5% from one year ago. The numbers also represent the single largest total of monthly British visitors to the island since 2009. Travel officials say much of the increase is directly attributed to more flights between Mauritius and the UK. Air Mauritius, Emirates, and Thomson Airways have been working together since late last year to get more flights coming in and out on a daily basis. For example, Air Mauritius and Emirates signed an agreement last December enabling them to share specific routes in certain markets. The agreement provided financial backing the Mauritius national air carrier needed to increase service to and from the UK. It has also given rise to more twin centre holidays in which Brits will fly to the UAE, stay for a few days, and then continue on to the Indian Ocean. Lots of Reasons to Go Of course, increased flights are not the only thing drawing British travellers to Mauritius. They are also going because of all the island has to offer. Despite tough economic times over the last few years, Mauritius is still one of the most attractive tropical destinations offering everything that international travels could want. There are spectacular white sand beaches with resorts catering to every budget. There are activities aplenty including water sports, golf, hiking and cycling, shopping, and entertainment. No matter where you go on the island there is always something exciting to do against a backdrop of some of the most beautiful scenery in the world. If you do not know much about Mauritius as a holiday destination, it's time for you to learn a bit more. In addition, there is no better way to do that than to make a personal visit yourself. The peak holiday season for the Indian Ocean runs from late October through until early March. If you are planning to visit during the peak season, now is the time to book your plans.
