Mauritius Prepares For Continental Cup Finals
If you're a fan of beach volleyball and you were already planning Mauritius luxury holidays for this year (2012), this week would have been perfect for your trip. Of course, if you can leave a moment's notice you still have time to get there for the CAVB Men's Continental cup finals scheduled for April 13th through 15th. This is one of the last qualifying tournaments in preparation of the London Olympic Games later this year. The famous Flic en Flac Beach on Mauritius' West Coast is host of the tournament. And while the entire island is beautiful in its own unique way, Flic en Flac is especially popular to beach volleyball and resorts that offer it as a regular activity. The water is calm, winds don't interfere, and there's plenty of hotel space for visiting teams and their families. Even after the men are gone at the conclusion of the tournament beach volleyball will remain one of the more popular sports in Mauritius. Mauritius will be represented by two teams comprised of Nicolas Laurette/Stephane Moonisamy and Eric Louise/Gino Sophie. Both teams have been working hard over the last several weeks to prepare for the tournament. Both hope to win a gold medal that carries with it an automatic ticket to London. The second and 3rd place teams will move on to the World Cup and the chance to qualify there. Some of the other participating teams include those from South Africa, Angola, Nigeria, Egypt, and the Congo. In addition to the regular competition there will be an exhibition match between Women's Team Champions Natasha Rigobert and Elodie Ng Yuk Fong and two Brazilian players who have not been named. The match was arranged by Mauritius Minister of Sports who happens to be a big fan of beach volleyball. If you love beach volleyball but can't get away to the Indian Ocean this week, don't lose heart. There will be undoubtedly more tournaments in the future to take advantage of her spectacular weather and natural environment. Of course, you could get together with some of your other volleyball loving fans and book your own trip this summer. With plenty of beach to choose from you could set up your own week-long competition complete with luxury accommodations, fine dining, and all the rest of Mauritius has to offer. If you're one of those travellers who's never yet been to Mauritius you don't know what you're missing. Few places on the planet are as stunning and sensually stimulating as this island. It is so in near perfect there is a legend among locals that God created Mauritius first, and the Garden of Eden followed. True or not, just a couple of days in this tropical paradise will confirm what so many others already know: Mauritius is a must-see holiday destination at least once in your life.
