Dubai Tourism Industry Bags The 2014 Itm Annual Meeting
The Dubai tourism industry has gained a major endorsement from the International Tennis Federation's (ITF) decision to host its general meeting in Dubai for 2014. It won a unanimous vote to host the meeting after discussions following the Davis Cup Final between Spain and the Czech Republic. The talks centred on three major locations to host the meeting; Dubai, Egypt, and Serbia. The world's governing body for tennis eventually decided to host its meeting in Dubai after long talks with its board of directors in Prague, however. The General Secretary for the Dubai Sports Council expressed his admiration of the efforts of Dubai's tourism industry: "The hosting of such an important meeting falls within the strategy and thinking of the Dubai Sports Council. We will ensure that all delegates attending this meeting go away happy with what Dubai and the UAE has to offer," The Annual General Meeting is a major event in the tennis calendar as delegates from all over the world meet to discuss the most pressing issues affecting the game. It involves the development of the game, the state of the rules governing tennis tournaments, and how to encourage the next generation of young tennis players to go further. Hosting the event in Dubai is a major milestone in expanding the sport's influence as this is the first time the West Asia is hosting the event, which comes after the 2013 Paris meeting to commemorate the organisation's centenary. Furthermore, representatives from the industry expect this to spell good news for Dubai luxury holidays . The President of the Tennis Emirates, Sheikh Hasher Al Maktoum spoke of the decision to choose Dubai for its meeting in 2014: "This is a proud moment for the UAE and for Dubai in particular and we are looking forward to welcome the tennis fraternity to Dubai in 2014," A Board Member of the Tennis Emirates, Nasser Madani, also mentioned how the connection between the Dubai Convention Bureau, Tennis Emirates, and Dubai Sports Council contributed to Dubai's triumph: "We are thankful for the support of the Dubai Sports Council and the Dubai Convention Bureau in securing the hosting and submitting a strong bid document that other contenders found difficult to beat." For the Dubai tourism industry it's of particular value since the influx of members attending the meeting will help support its luxury holiday industry. The Executive Director of the Dubai Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) said: "In a relatively short period of time, Dubai has built an excellent reputation as both a sporting and conference destination. The Dubai Convention Bureau is both proud and pleased to have been able to play a part in bringing this prestigious event to Dubai. We believe that this event will act as a springboard to further encourage similar events in the future."
