British holidaymakers heading off for their summer holidays are no doubt checking the weather forecasts for the destinations to which they will be travelling. The capital city of Nicosia is set to see temperatures soar to around 40oC in the coming days. Those staying in coastal resorts such as Limassol, Paphos and Ayia Napa will probably see temperatures a few degrees lower at between 33oC and 35oC.

While some will be delighted at the news, health officials are warning people to take care and to stay hydrated. Those with health conditions such as high blood pressure, diabetes, obesity, asthma, and heart disease should take particular care while those travelling with children and the elderly need to be aware of the dangers of spending too much time in the hot sun.

Cyprus is also well known for its myths and legends, none more so than Aphrodite’s Rock. Legend has it that the rock was the birthplace of the Greek goddess of love Aphrodite. The sea around the rock is quite rough, so it is not advisable to swim there, and climbing the rock itself is prohibited. However, many tourists visit the surrounding areas to take photos of this famous attraction.
